SCOTTISH SENIOR CHAMPIONSHIP PITREAVIE 17/18.7.10

Congratulations must go to Beth Duff who won the Siver Medal at the Scottish Senior Championships over 800m at the weekend.  Beth won her heat on the Saturday, which was a very close sprint finish between four athletes, to qualify for the final on Sunday.  In the final which was won by Scottish International Claire Gibson, Beth again done well in a close finish to take the Silver Medal in a time of 2:12.07.  For full results go to the SAL website.


SCOTTISH SCHOOLS INTERNATIONAL VEST FOR ROSS

Ross Maxwell won a Scottish Schools International vest to represent Scotland at the U17 Schools International at Scotstoun. He was seventh in the long jump with 6.30m and also formed part of the Scottish 4x100m team.  Well done Ross.

SCOTTISH ATHLETICS UNDER 13 SUPERTEAMS COMPETITION PITREAVIE



Congratulations to our Under 13 boys who won the Bronze Medal at the above competition on Saturday 10.7.10.  The team of Luke Kirwan, Calum Fields, Aiden Gilbride and Stephen Leadbetter all competed over a 200m, Long Jump, Shot Put and 4x100m relay.  Points are scored on each event and then added together for a team total and the East Kilbride lads finished with 224 points to take the Bronze Medal.

INTERNATIONAL CHILDRENS GAMES - BAHRAIN




Laura McCracken won the girls' 100m at the International Children's Games in Bahrain. She clocked a PB time of 12.57 seconds to beat fellow finalists from Singapore, Poland, Hungary, Slovenia, Germany and Ireland. Laura and Arlene Barr also won a silver in the girls' 4x100m. In addition, Arlene, who has been suffering from a sore toe since March, made the 'B' final of the girls' 100m.
 
Ross Maxwell took silver in the boys' long jump with a leap of 6.49m, which easily beats his own Scottish U15 record. He also won a bronze in the boys' 4x100m, where he was joined by Nicholas Coupland. Ross also took 7th place in the 100m.
 
East Kilbride AC athletes made up half of the Lanarkshire team at the ICG in Bahrain - all returning with a medal or medals and memories to last a lifetime.

SCOTTISH SCHOOLS GRANGEMOUTH DAY 2
 
Day two of the Scottish Schools Track & Field Championships brought more success for East Kilbride AC athletes with Shannon McMahon and Ross Maxwell winning gold and Nicholas Coupland winning a silver in their 100m finals.
 
Shannon won the Group D girls 100m in a PB time of 13.18 seconds while Ross Maxwell won the Group C boys 100m in 11.70. Nicholas Coupland  was second in the Group D boys 100m in 12.08 after winning his heat in a PB of 12.05.
 

 

SCOTTISH SCHOOLS GRANGEMOUTH DAY 1


East Kilbride AC athletes won three gold medals on the first day of action at the Scottish Schools Track and Field Championships at Grangemouth (Friday, June 11).
 
Ross Maxwell won the Group C long jump in 6.35m, which is a new championship and Scottish U15 record. He also won the 200m in a PB time of 23.58secs.
 
Shannon McMahon made it a treble for EKAC with victory in the Group D 200m in a new PB time of 27.20secs.
 
Laura McCracken had a great day too, reaching the Group B women's 100m final and twice recording a new PB time of 12.84secs.

 

SLAP @ SYAL GRANGEMOUTH 30.5.10

Congratulations to all the athletes who were selected to compete and those who did performed well with many PB's being set during the course of the day.

In the Under 13's Luke Kirwan ran a mature race to take 10 seconds of his PB and run the 4th fastest U13 1500m in the club's history with a time of 5:01.78.  Mia Coffield finished a fine 4th in the 150m 22.53 and an excellent 2nd in the Long Jump 4.05m, two PB's.

Onto the Under 15's and the sprinters were to the fore.  An excellent run from Ross Maxwell to win the boys A 100m in a time of 11.67 which is not only a PB but now ranks him second on the club under 15 list, 1st B Nicholas Coupland 12.06 PB, 200m 1st A Nicholas Coupland 24.38 PB, Long Jump 1st Ross Maxwell 6.29m (only 4cm off of his Scottish Record), 100m girls 2nd Shannon McMahon 13.32 PB and 200m 2nd 27.31 PB.

Not to be outdone Laura McCracken and Arlene Barr had two double firsts in the U17 women's 100m and 200m with Laura running two PB's of 12.91 & 27.29 and Arlene running 13.01 & 27.97.  Also running strongly in the Under 17's were Ben Stafford 800m 2:11.84 and Rachel Thomson 800m 2:35.63.

It was great to see so many good performances by EKAC athletes in the SLAP team and hopefully more athletes can aim for selection in the final meeting on the 4th of July.



CSS League Dumfries 23.5.10

Club Record for Beth Duff 1500m

Well done to all who helped the club finish in 4th place on Sunday.  In particular all the athletes who competed but also all coaches, officals and parents.

There were A string first place finishes for Aiden Brown U11 800m, Luke Kirwan U13 1500m, Ben Stafford U17 1500m and the Under 11 Boys 4x100m team.  Megan Stewart U15 1500m, Jenna Low Senior Long Jump and lastly performance of the day taking 9 seconds off of the Club Record for 1500m was Beth Duff running a solo effort of 4:30.3.


SCOTTISH U15/17 CHAMPIONSHIPS WISHAW 15.5.10


Ross Maxwell won a gold and two silvers at the U15 U17 Closed Scottish Championships at Wishaw (15-5-10). Competing in the U15 age group he won the long jump with 6.11m, and finished second in the 100m (11.84 PB in heat) and second in the 200m (23.18 PB).
 
Nicholas Coupland finished fourth in the U15 100m producing a big 12.21 PB in his heat (12.26 in final into a 2.1m/s wind). 
 
Laura McCracken was given fifth in the U17 girls' 100m, running identical times to Rachael Whittle in the heat (13.08) and final (13.18) but each time being placed behind Whittle.
 
Shannon McMahon finished sixth in the U15 girls' 200m final after producing a PB of 27.40 in her heat. She also finished eighth in the U15 girls' 100m final.


3RD PLACE AND PB FOR GRANT BAILLIE @ TROON 10Km 5.5.10


Congratulations to Grant Baillie who finished in an excellent 3rd place in a field of over one thousnad runners at the Wednesday evening event the Troon 10Km Road Race.  In addition Grant ran a new pb of 32:43 beating his old time by 30secs and claimed the West District Bronze medal whose Championship was incorporated in the event.  As if that was not enough he also managed to win the Seniors Ten Event competition with his fine run over the seaside course.

Ross Maxwell broke the Scottish outdoor record for the U15 long jump at the Scottish Young Athletes League division two meeting at Wishaw (2-5-10).
 
His fourth and final jump of the day measured 6.33m - one centimetre in front of the old record - despite being well off the front of the board. He also won the 100m in a new PB time of 11.85 and anchored the 4x100m team to a wide-margin win.
 
Ross, who also holds the Scottish U15 indoor record, was given the athlete of the day award  for his age group.
 
East Kilbride AC athletes were competing as part of the South Lanarkshire team on the day.
 
Laura McCracken won the U17 women's 100 and 200m, Shannon McMahon won the U15 girls' 200m and finished second in the 100m and Nicholas Coupland finished second in the U15 boys' 200m. Nick was also part on the winning U15 relay team while Laura and Shannon ran excellent anchor legs to achieve top three finishes.
 
Ben Stafford ran well to finish strongly for second in the U17 boys' 800m.
 

 

GLASGOW PARKRUN SATURDAY 1.5.10

In this weeks Parkrun event Kevin Downie finished first in a new pb of 16:39 well done.
