SATURDAY

Congratulations go to Laura McCracken won gold in the under-18 women's 60m at the Scottish Age Group  Indoor Championships on Saturday, March 3, with clubmate Arlene Barr taking the silver. Laura recorded a PB time of 7.92 seconds while Arlene also clocked a PB with 8.01 secs. Both won their heats - Laura in 8.00 and Arlene in 8.13.
 
Shannon McMahon notched up a PB time of 27.26secs in the U18 women's 200m and Kieran Rankin clocked an indoor PB time of 54.22 in the U18 men's 400m but neither progressed to their finals.


SUNDAY

Callum Field won a silver medal at the Scottish Age Group Indoor Championships at the Kelvin Hall on Sunday, March 4. After winning his heat in 27.46secs, Callum won his semi-final in a PB time of 26.98 then took second in the final in 27.04.
 
Chloe Mason made it into the semi-finals of the under-16 girls' 60m and 200m, notching up a PB and Under 15 Club Record of 8.35 in the 60m.

 

SCOTTISH SCHOOLS INDOORS

Six EKAC athletes took part in the Scottish Schools Indoor Championships at the Kelvin Hall on Thursday, February 9.
 
Laura McCracken was fifth in the final of the over-16 girls' 60m in a time of 8.06secs.
Andy Coutts produced a PB time of 7.33secs to make the semi-final of the over-16 boys' 60m.
Chloe Mason ran PB times of 8.43secs in the under-16 girls' 60m and 28.02secs in the 200m to make the semis in both events.
Shannon McMahon made the semi-finals of both the under-16 girls' 200m and 300m.
Kieran Rankin was just run out in his heat of the over-16 boys' 400m but gained more valuable experience.
Aidan Gilbride ran well to get a pb over 800m finishing 8th in his heat with a time of 2:24.72.
 
Meanwhile, Rachael Thomson produced a PB time of 64.78secs to make the final of the 400m at the Scottish Universities Indoor Championships on Saturday, Feb 4.


NATIONAL INDOORS - KELVINHALL

Nine EKAC athletes took part in the National Open event at the Kelvin Hall on Saturday. In the women's 60m, under-18 athletes Laura McCracken (8.12 seconds) and Arlene Barr (8.22) recorded the third and fifth fastest times of the day with 71 female athletes of all ages racing over the shortest distance.
 
Laura also posted a time of 27.67 secs in the 200m
 
Shannon McMahon (U18), who has improved her 300m time to 44.8 this winter running second claim for Whitemoss, ran in her first ever 400m and recorded a time of 66.43 secs.
 
Callum Field (U14) made his indoor debut and recorded a PB time of 28.18 secs in the 200m, where Chloe Mason (U16) recorded 29.01secs after posting a time of 8.69 in the 60m.
 
Under-18 Kieran Rankin (57.08secs) and Rachael Thomson (68.26secs) also tasted the boards for the first time.
 
Keith Garrow and Billy Muir (10.67m and 6.95m respectively) flew the flag in the men's shot putt.

133 participants completed the run today. The first male to finish was Robert GILROY (M) (Ronhill Cambuslang Harriers) in a time of 00:16:50. The first lady completing the course was Jill LOGAN (F) (Motherwell AC) in a time of 00:20:57. RELAY SILVER

East Kilbride AC's under-16 boys' relay team of Andy Coutts, Nick Coupland, Matt Ashelby and Ross Maxwell won a silver medal at the Scottish Age Groups sprint relay championships at Scotstoun on Sunday (17.07.11). The team finished just behind Giffnock North in a time of 46.71secs. 

Meawhile, Laura McCracken competed for Scotland in the Schools International at Cardiff on Saturday (16.07.11), finishing 8th in the 100m and leading off the team to a third place in the 4x100m.

 

 

 

CLUB RECORD FOR THE 4X100M GIRLS


The 4x100m team of Shannon McMahon, Laura McCracken, Arlene Barr and Chloe Mason set a new club record of 52.4 when winning their U17 event on Sunday.

 
Their time replaces the mark of 52.6 set in 1985 by Mary Shearer, Fiona Watt, Alison Quinn and Karen Gallacher. I remember these girls - they were fast!
 
To put it further in persepective, Shannon is 14, Arlene and Laura are 16 and Chloe is 12. Their time was 1.9 seconds faster than EK's winning 4x100m U15 BOYS team on Sunday.
 
Well done girls - keep up the good work.

 

LAURA MCCRACKEN 60m Final

Congratulations to Laura McCracken who actually broke her own club record by slightly more than first reported becoming the first female in the club to run under 8 seconds for 60m indoors with a fine time of 7.97 secs.


SCOTTISH U17/15 INDOOR CHAMPIONSHIPS


Nicholas Coupland won a silver in the U15 200m and a bronze in the U15 60m at the Scottish age group indoor championhips, clocking PBs of 24.22 and 7.59 secs respectively.
 
A further three EK sprinters achieved fourth places: Shannon McMahon in the U15 200m with a PB, Ross Maxwell in the U17 60m after equalling his PB and Laura McCracken in the U17 60m with her time of 8.01secs breaking her own club record.
 
Chloe Mason (U15 60m) and Andy Coutts (U17 60m) made the semi-finals of their events while Arlene Barr competed in the heats of the U17 60m.
 


EK PRIMARY SCHOOLS CROSS COUNTRY FRIDAY 4.3.11

It was encouraging to see several good performances by club members at the EK Primary Schools XC on Friday.  First up Rebecca Russell won the P6 girls race and a team gold.  Not to be outdone Aidan Brown won the P6 boys race and a team silver.  Moving on to the P7's races Sarah McCusker finished second to win the silver medal and both Mark Leadbitter and Matthew Kirwan won team silver medals.  Several other young athletes were also competing and enjoying the day.  Hopefully this bodes well for the future.  Well done to all.


SILVER MEDAL FOR BETH DUFF

Congratulations to Beth Duff who equalled her indoor pb when winning the Silver Medal for 1500m at the National Indoor Senior Championships on Saturday 26.2.11.  In addition young Laura McCracken experienced her first taste of senior competition and equalled her own club record of 8.07 seconds in her heat of the women's 60m.  Well done to both.

NATIONAL XC CHAMPIONSHIPS FALKIRK SATURDAY 21.2.11

HIghlights of the day were Beth Duff finishing 5th in the U20 ladies race and the Under 13 boys finishing 8th team.  Full results are now on the documents page.

All athletes must now refocus on the Scottish Junior Road Race Championbships to be held in March at Rouken Glen Park.  A much larger turnout at this event is expected and every effort will be made to achieve this!

SCOTTISH SCHOOLS INDOORS



Six East Kilbride AC sprinters competed at the Scottish Schools Indoor Championships (Thursday, Feb 10).
 
Ross Maxwell won the under-16 boys' 60m in a time of 7.28 seconds after clocking a PB time of 7.25 in the semi-final.
 
Andy Coutts ran a PB 7.48 seconds to finish equal sixth in the final of the same race.
 
Laura McCracken clocked a PB 8.07 seconds on her way to a sixth place finish in the over-16 girls' 60m.
 
Arlene Barr won her heat to make the semi-finals of the same race - her first competition after a long-term toe injury. 
 
Shannon McMahon did an indoor PB in the under-16 girls' 200m (27.5s semi-final) .
 
Chloe Mason at the age of just 12 narrowly missed a place in the sem-finals of the under-16 girls' 60m with a heat time of 8.61 secs.
 

SPRINT GROUP UPDATE

East Kilbride AC speedsters have got the year off to a quick start - establishing themselves as among the top sprinters in their age groups in Scotland over the indoor sprint distance of 60m (see the Power of 10 website @ http://www.thepowerof10.info/)
 
The club welcomes newcomers Chloe Mason (U15, 8.60 secs), Andy Coutts (U17, 7.55 and Alan Barr (U20, 7.45), who showed their speed at the first ever Scottish Open Meeting at the Kelvin Hall on January 23.
 
Also doing well at the Open were Ross Maxwell (U17, 7.35), Laura McCracken (U17, 8.17), Shannon McMahon (U15, 8.53) and Nicholas Coupland (U15, 7.63).
 
Ross also clocked 7.33 secs at the first ever open graded meeting at the new Ravenscraig indoor facility.
 
The U15s and U17s are now looking forward to the Scottish Schools Indoor 
Championships on Feb 10 and the Scottish Age Groups Championships in March. Meanwhile Arlene Barr aims to return to action at these events after a toe injury and the club wishes Arlene and all her team mates the best of luck.

CLUB CROSS COUNTRY CHAMPS

THE CLUB CROSS COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIPS WILL BE HELD WITHIN THE NATIONAL XC CHAMPS ON 19.2.11.

ANNUAL  GENERAL  MEETING 

WEDNESDAY 1 DECEMBER – 7.30 pm – CLUBHOUSE 
 
 

Please make every effort to attend the AGM.  It is your Club  

and without a committee and volunteer parental assistance in  

other duties, the Club would cease to function. 

We need new committee members and parent volunteers to  

help on Tuesday and Thursday evenings, either by assisting  

the Coaches or with taking the register, etc. 

The AGM is open to all parents and athletes 18 years and  

over.

 

LANARKSHIRE XC CHAMPS COATBRIDGE 20.11.10

Beth Duff ran well to win the Senior Ladies title at the Lanarkshire XC Champs at Coatbridge on Saturday running 17:10 for the 3 mile course.  In the same combined race Ben Stafford ran well to finish in 3rd place in the U17 Men's event with a time of 17:08.  The U13 Boy's team of Luke Kirwan 4th, Aidan Gilbride 5th & Martin Lynas 10th won the team competition and the U17 Ladies team of Rachel Thomson 7th, Rachel Fairlie 9th and Emma Fairlie 13th won the team Bronze medals.

KILMARNOCK XC RACES SUNDAY 14.11.10

WINS FOR GRANT & VINCENT



Congratulations to both Grant Baillie and Vincent Hastings who won the Senior Men's and Under 15 Boy's races respectively today.  Both had dominant and convincing wins Grant winning the 6 mile race by 1min 40 secs and Vinnie who won the 3 mile race by almost 30 secs.

LANARKSHIRE ROAD RELAYS 16.10.10

Congratulations to the Under 13 boys team of Aidan Gilbride, Martin Lynas & Luke Kirwan who won the LAAA Road Relay 3x2500m title at Drumpellier Park, Coatbridge.  Congratulations also go to Ben Stafford who won the individual Under 17 Mens race over 4km.  Full results are now available on our documents page.

It is now less than three weeks until the Ceilidh on Saturday 2nd October.  Tickets are now on sale and every effort should be made to attend to help boost club funds etc.

Our sprint squad of Shannon McMahon, Laura McCracken, Nicholas Coupland and Ross Maxwell rounded of the season in style with victory in the Youth Relay at the Pitlochry Highland Games last weekend.

GOLDEN LEAGUE OGM @ EAST KILBRIDE 25.8.10

Beth Duff ran a new pb and club record of 4:28.56 for 1500m on Wednesday evening at our home track.  Also running in the 1500m were Kevin Downie 4:12.59, Scott Hernon 4:39.48, Andy Shaw 4:48.06, Kieran Rankine 5:01.52, Luke Kirwan 5:03.54, Vincent Hastings 5:09.31, Rachel Thomson 5:31.25, James Pearson 5:33.94, Sophie Smith 5:24.32, Catherine Lambie 5:57.81, Emma Fairlie 6:03.17 and Rachel Fairlie 6:03.65.  In the 100m Ross Maxwell ran 11.73, Shannon McMahon 13.71 and Robyn MacDonald 14.93.  In the 200m Ross Maxwell ran 23.89, Shannon McMahon 28.11 and Robyn Miller 31.73.  Finally in the Long Jump Robyn Miller leaped 4m 02cm and Robyn Miller jumped 3m 85cm.

This Saturday is the Lanarkshire Championships at Wishaw at which we will hopefully have a large turnout.

ROSS COMPLETES GRAND SLAM

WINNING THE ENGLAND ATHLETICS AAA'S TITLE

Congratulations to Ross Maxwell who won the U15 long jump at the England Athletics Outdoor Championships for U15s and U17s in Bedford.

 
Ross jumped 6.47m (the second biggest leap of his career to date) to secure the gold. Second was 6.40m so he needed to be in top form.
 
Ross has now won an U15s Grand Slam of long jumps: Scottish Schools Indoors, Scottish Closed Indoors, Scottish Open Indoors, English Indoors, Scottish Schools Outdoors, Scottish Closed Outdoors, Scottish Open Outdoors and English Outdoors - not to mention breaking the Scottish record indoors and out.
 
Laura McCracken won the 100m and 200m at Bute Highland Games.

SCOTTISH AGE GROUP CHAMPIONSHIPS 14/15.8.10

CLUB RECORD FOR ROSS


Ross Maxwell won two golds and a silver at the Bank of Scotland Age Group Championships at Scotstoun.
 
First up was the long jump, which he won with a leap of 6.15m. Then it was on to the 100m, where gold was secured with an U15 club record time of 11.59 seconds. Finally, there was a second place in the 200m with a time of 23.39 seconds.
 
Laura McCracken and Shannon McMahon made the finals of their events - Laura in the U17 100m and Shannon the U15 200m.
 
Also competing well were East Kilbride's U13s in the Superteams event.

CELTIC GAMES, IRELAND 7.8.10

Laura McCracken finished third in the 100m at the Celtic Games in Ireland on Saturday, August 7. Laura recorded a time of 12.58 seconds in the U16 event. The Celtic Games feature representative teams from Scotland, Ireland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

Congratulations must go to Beth Duff who won the Siver Medal at the Scottish Senior Championships over 800m at the weekend.  Beth won her heat on the Saturday, which was a very close sprint finish between four athletes, to qualify for the final on Sunday.  In the final which was won by Scottish International Claire Gibson, Beth again done well in a close finish to take the Silver Medal in a time of 2:12.07.  For full results go to the SAL website.


SCOTTISH SCHOOLS INTERNATIONAL VEST FOR ROSS

Ross Maxwell won a Scottish Schools International vest to represent Scotland at the U17 Schools International at Scotstoun. He was seventh in the long jump with 6.30m and also formed part of the Scottish 4x100m team.  Well done Ross.

SCOTTISH ATHLETICS UNDER 13 SUPERTEAMS COMPETITION PITREAVIE



Congratulations to our Under 13 boys who won the Bronze Medal at the above competition on Saturday 10.7.10.  The team of Luke Kirwan, Calum Fields, Aiden Gilbride and Stephen Leadbetter all competed over a 200m, Long Jump, Shot Put and 4x100m relay.  Points are scored on each event and then added together for a team total and the East Kilbride lads finished with 224 points to take the Bronze Medal.

INTERNATIONAL CHILDRENS GAMES - BAHRAIN




Laura McCracken won the girls' 100m at the International Children's Games in Bahrain. She clocked a PB time of 12.57 seconds to beat fellow finalists from Singapore, Poland, Hungary, Slovenia, Germany and Ireland. Laura and Arlene Barr also won a silver in the girls' 4x100m. In addition, Arlene, who has been suffering from a sore toe since March, made the 'B' final of the girls' 100m.
 
Ross Maxwell took silver in the boys' long jump with a leap of 6.49m, which easily beats his own Scottish U15 record. He also won a bronze in the boys' 4x100m, where he was joined by Nicholas Coupland. Ross also took 7th place in the 100m.
 
East Kilbride AC athletes made up half of the Lanarkshire team at the ICG in Bahrain - all returning with a medal or medals and memories to last a lifetime.

SCOTTISH SCHOOLS GRANGEMOUTH DAY 2
 
Day two of the Scottish Schools Track & Field Championships brought more success for East Kilbride AC athletes with Shannon McMahon and Ross Maxwell winning gold and Nicholas Coupland winning a silver in their 100m finals.
 
Shannon won the Group D girls 100m in a PB time of 13.18 seconds while Ross Maxwell won the Group C boys 100m in 11.70. Nicholas Coupland  was second in the Group D boys 100m in 12.08 after winning his heat in a PB of 12.05.
 

 

SCOTTISH SCHOOLS GRANGEMOUTH DAY 1


East Kilbride AC athletes won three gold medals on the first day of action at the Scottish Schools Track and Field Championships at Grangemouth (Friday, June 11).
 
Ross Maxwell won the Group C long jump in 6.35m, which is a new championship and Scottish U15 record. He also won the 200m in a PB time of 23.58secs.
 
Shannon McMahon made it a treble for EKAC with victory in the Group D 200m in a new PB time of 27.20secs.
 
Laura McCracken had a great day too, reaching the Group B women's 100m final and twice recording a new PB time of 12.84secs.

 

SLAP @ SYAL GRANGEMOUTH 30.5.10

Congratulations to all the athletes who were selected to compete and those who did performed well with many PB's being set during the course of the day.

In the Under 13's Luke Kirwan ran a mature race to take 10 seconds of his PB and run the 4th fastest U13 1500m in the club's history with a time of 5:01.78.  Mia Coffield finished a fine 4th in the 150m 22.53 and an excellent 2nd in the Long Jump 4.05m, two PB's.

Onto the Under 15's and the sprinters were to the fore.  An excellent run from Ross Maxwell to win the boys A 100m in a time of 11.67 which is not only a PB but now ranks him second on the club under 15 list, 1st B Nicholas Coupland 12.06 PB, 200m 1st A Nicholas Coupland 24.38 PB, Long Jump 1st Ross Maxwell 6.29m (only 4cm off of his Scottish Record), 100m girls 2nd Shannon McMahon 13.32 PB and 200m 2nd 27.31 PB.

Not to be outdone Laura McCracken and Arlene Barr had two double firsts in the U17 women's 100m and 200m with Laura running two PB's of 12.91 & 27.29 and Arlene running 13.01 & 27.97.  Also running strongly in the Under 17's were Ben Stafford 800m 2:11.84 and Rachel Thomson 800m 2:35.63.

It was great to see so many good performances by EKAC athletes in the SLAP team and hopefully more athletes can aim for selection in the final meeting on the 4th of July.

Club Record for Beth Duff 1500m

Well done to all who helped the club finish in 4th place on Sunday.  In particular all the athletes who competed but also all coaches, officals and parents.

There were A string first place finishes for Aiden Brown U11 800m, Luke Kirwan U13 1500m, Ben Stafford U17 1500m and the Under 11 Boys 4x100m team.  Megan Stewart U15 1500m, Jenna Low Senior Long Jump and lastly performance of the day taking 9 seconds off of the Club Record for 1500m was Beth Duff running a solo effort of 4:30.3.


SCOTTISH U15/17 CHAMPIONSHIPS WISHAW 15.5.10


Ross Maxwell won a gold and two silvers at the U15 U17 Closed Scottish Championships at Wishaw (15-5-10). Competing in the U15 age group he won the long jump with 6.11m, and finished second in the 100m (11.84 PB in heat) and second in the 200m (23.18 PB).
 
Nicholas Coupland finished fourth in the U15 100m producing a big 12.21 PB in his heat (12.26 in final into a 2.1m/s wind). 
 
Laura McCracken was given fifth in the U17 girls' 100m, running identical times to Rachael Whittle in the heat (13.08) and final (13.18) but each time being placed behind Whittle.
 
Shannon McMahon finished sixth in the U15 girls' 200m final after producing a PB of 27.40 in her heat. She also finished eighth in the U15 girls' 100m final.


3RD PLACE AND PB FOR GRANT BAILLIE @ TROON 10Km 5.5.10


Congratulations to Grant Baillie who finished in an excellent 3rd place in a field of over one thousnad runners at the Wednesday evening event the Troon 10Km Road Race.  In addition Grant ran a new pb of 32:43 beating his old time by 30secs and claimed the West District Bronze medal whose Championship was incorporated in the event.  As if that was not enough he also managed to win the Seniors Ten Event competition with his fine run over the seaside course.

Ross Maxwell broke the Scottish outdoor record for the U15 long jump at the Scottish Young Athletes League division two meeting at Wishaw (2-5-10).
 
His fourth and final jump of the day measured 6.33m - one centimetre in front of the old record - despite being well off the front of the board. He also won the 100m in a new PB time of 11.85 and anchored the 4x100m team to a wide-margin win.
 
Ross, who also holds the Scottish U15 indoor record, was given the athlete of the day award  for his age group.
 
East Kilbride AC athletes were competing as part of the South Lanarkshire team on the day.
 
Laura McCracken won the U17 women's 100 and 200m, Shannon McMahon won the U15 girls' 200m and finished second in the 100m and Nicholas Coupland finished second in the U15 boys' 200m. Nick was also part on the winning U15 relay team while Laura and Shannon ran excellent anchor legs to achieve top three finishes.
 
Ben Stafford ran well to finish strongly for second in the U17 boys' 800m.
 

 

GLASGOW PARKRUN SATURDAY 1.5.10

In this weeks Parkrun event Kevin Downie finished first in a new pb of 16:39 well done.
